My Neck Really Hurts

When individuals present with neck pain, they always ask, "where's the pain coming from?" Clearly, this can just be replied after a careful history and complete evaluation is completed, which will be what we do in this office. Let's take a closer look at what this includes.

The History: This includes a cautious description of the way the harm occurred, if there is a trauma. Additionally, if there was a dazed feeling or loss consciousness in the procedure. If there was a head strike, were there any signs of concussion: tiredness, mental "haze," head ache, trouble communication or forming words or sentences. The cumulative result of several little "micro-traumas" can result in a rather critical start of symptoms several days later. Information viewing past history, family history, medical history (surgical procedures, drugs), social history, customs (nodoz, tobacco, alcohol, etc.), and a systems review (heart, lungs, stomach, nervous system, etc.).

The Physical Exam: This comprises vital signs (blood pressure, and so on), observation - the manner the head is positioned (forwards, to the side, rotated, etc.); palpation - contact/feel for muscle spasm, trigger points, spinal vertebra posture and motion; range of motion, orthopedic and neurological evaluations. The exam procedure may also contain roentgenogram, depending on each scenario.

The Analysis: That Is determined after requiring all your info and "...placing the puzzle parts together" to discover what's causing your pain.

The Treatment

: Chiropractic spinal manipulation (frequently referred to as "adjustments") is done by employing electricity or pressure to the mis-aligned or fixed vertebra structures by one of several methods depending on the patient's size, soreness amount, fortitude, and others. Other "manual" treatment approaches include soft tissue therapy such as trigger point therapy, active release, massage, shaking, among others. The use of physical therapy modalities including ice, heat, electric stimulation, ultrasound, light - laser therapy, as well as /or others, again, depending on your unique situation and needs can also be beneficial. Likewise workouts to teach you how to hold your proper posture, to improve flexibility or range of motion, and to reinforce the muscles that are poor actually help to make the adjustments "hold" and the advantageous effects last longer. A work station/occupation evaluation might also be needed if that appears to be irritating your condition.
